The Congressional Caucus on Youth Sports is a bipartisan coalition in the U.S. Congress dedicated to improving the health, safety, and development of young people through access to youth sports. By promoting sportsmanship, inclusion, physical activity, and safety, the caucus works to ensure that all children—regardless of background—can benefit from positive sport experiences. Through partnerships with national organizations like the National Council of Youth Sports (NCYS), this caucus plays a vital role in shaping federal policies that support coaches, parents, and local programs.

What the Caucus Co-Chairs are Saying!

“Our goal is to ensure every child—regardless of zip code—can benefit from the life skills, health, and community that sports provide.”
Rep. Marc Veasey

“Teamwork, discipline, and perseverance are lessons that last a lifetime.”
Rep. Jake Ellzey

Why the Congressional Caucus on Youth Sports Matters

Research shows that youth sports participation leads to:

  • Higher school achievement

  • Improved mental health

  • Reduced juvenile crime

  • Better physical outcomes in adulthood

Despite these benefits, only 54% of youth in the U.S. currently participate in sports. The goal set by Healthy People 2030 is 63% participation by the end of the decade. The caucus is working to close that gap by:

  • Supporting legislation that increases access to sports

  • Promoting safe and developmentally appropriate play

  • Increasing funding for local community programs

  • Encouraging coach training and injury prevention

This work also aligns with NCYS’s mission to ensure youth sports are accessible, affordable, and safe for every child.
