Sports Parenting Tip of the Month Becomes an Effective Resource for Youth Sports Parents and Coaches

The National Council of Youth Sports (NCYS) and PlaySportsTV (PSTV) continue to serve the youth sports community by delivering the necessary tools for educating youngsters. Today they announced a new resource for the youth sports industry, the “Sports Parenting Tip of the Month” video player. This educational tool is a customized video player that an organization can add to its web page.

President Obama Announces New White House Office of Olympic, Paralympic and Youth Sport

Today, President Barack Obama announced the formation of the White House Office of Olympic, Paralympic and Youth Sport. This permanent White House office will promote the values of the Olympic Movement and encourage increased youth participation in athletics. The primary function of the Office will be to enhance awareness of the Olympic Movement through promotion of its fundamental principles at the federal level.

This year, NCYS’ Hershey’s STRIVE Award will be presented to a national administrator, a local administrator, a volunteer and a coach/official for their “heartfelt passion, enthusiastic commitment, and a contagious spirit to help kids succeed in youth sports activities.” Honorees were nominated by team members, parents or colleagues and judged by a panel of NCYS officials.

National Council of Youth Sports and CDC Team-Up on Youth Sports Concussion Initiative. New Tool Kit Provides Essential Concussion Recognition and Response Information for All Youth Sports

The National Council of Youth Sports today announced they have joined with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to help promote a new initiative to protect participants of all youth sports who may be at risk of concussion. The campaign entitled, “Heads Up: Concussion in Youth Sports,” expands efforts of previous CDC campaigns which were designed to protect teenagers at risk of concussion to athletes of all youth sports, regardless of age.

Americans Outdoors Act Introduced in Senate

Americans for Our Heritage and Recreation (AHR), a NCYS member, has been a respected leader guiding us and keeping us informed on the progress of related legislation to the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF).

FBI Requests Youth Sports Community To Make a Commitment To the Safety of Children
The attached letter from the FBI requests the members of the National Council of Youth Sports (NCYS) to take action in the protection of our children through the National Child Identification Program (NCIDP). The NCYS is challenging all youth sports organizations to get involved in this child safety awareness program taking on our public safety responsibility.

Congress Names NCYS In The Protect Act As A Particpant In An Eighteen Month Background Checks Child Safety Pilot Project!
Child safety legislation for reliable and rapid background checks with one national database that is federally funded is NCYS' ultimate advocacy goal. As the first step to that end, NCYS is honored and excited to be one of three organizations named in the PROTECT Act that will participate in an eighteen-month pilot project whereby 100,000 background checks (33,000 for each organization) will be performed by the FBI.

Who's Protecting Our Children - An NCYS Child Safety Initiative
The NCYS has taken a leadership position in addressing the crisis currently affecting youth-serving organizations - known incidents of and potential for abuse and molestation of youth by coaches and mentors. Child abuse/molestation is by no means confined to sports, yet unfortunately, any program where adults supervise children represents an obvious opportunity for sexual predators, and youth sports programs are known targets for perpetrators of these crimes.
