2004 Youth Sports Leadership Summit

April 21 & 22, 2004 at Adam's Mark Hotel Jacksonville, Florida

Wednesday, April 21st Criminal Background Checks for Volunteers
Thursday, April 22nd Certified Sports Administrator (CSA)

IF YOU HAVE JUST ONE MEETING TO ATTEND THIS YEAR, THIS IS IT!

In response to our members' request, the NCYS is hosting a two-day Youth Sports Leadership Summit. Day One we will address a critical issue facing the youth sports industry, the insurance industry, and most importantly the protection and safety of our children. On this day all attendees will be participants playing an active role in creating recommended guidelines and best practices for our associations. Day Two we will be staging the first two of six courses to become a Certified Sports Administrator-an exciting opportunity for you to broaden your education, enhance your youth sports experience, and add the well-deserved "CSA" initials behind your name!

WEDNESDAY APRIL 21ST
9:00am - 4:00pm Criminal Background Checks for Volunteers

The National Council of Youth Sports (NCYS) has taken a leadership position in addressing the crisis of abuse and sexual molestation of youth by coaches and mentors. The issue is rapidly becoming a threat to youth programs in this country and should be managed as a top strategic priority by every youth-serving organization. This full day summit will bring the youth sports industry leaders together to unite as a community and eradicate criminal behavior from our programs.

Format and Purpose of this NCYS Child Safety Initiative:

  • present organized information, showing an authoritative opinion on the topic, setting forth an analysis;
  • have resource persons and industry experts speak to needs;
  • attain maximum verbal audience participation in which each participant is both teacher and learner;
  • identify, explore, clarify ideas and best practices,
  • gain an understanding of component parts of the topic and identify a course of action;
  • create a recommended national standard.

    THURSDAY APRIL 22ND
    8:30am - 5:00pm Certified Sports Administrator (CSA)

    The rapidly changing sports market is requiring more sophisticated marketing and greater fiscal responsibility from sports organization and their management. At the same time, sports industry managers do not often have the time, resources or opportunity to earn an advanced management degree or relevant management training.
    The NCYS has partnered with internationally renowned The George Washington University (GWU) School of Management to develop a customized, flexible and affordable educational program that provides management-related courses to NCYS executives to address the existing market. Participants will earn a Certified Sports Administrator certificate by completing six courses. The first two courses offered Thursday April 22nd are:
  • Marketing Sports Organizations
  • Sponsorship & Negotiations
