The Fairmont Hotel New Orleans

Saturday, November 8, 2003
8:00am Breakfast and NCYS Business Meeting
9:00am "Kid News From the Present Future"
Keynote Speaker: Paul Kurnit, KidShop
Overview: There is so much focus and attention being dedicated today to the new savvy and sophistication in the kids market. We recognize kid power in their spending and influence. We talk about kids getting older younger. We study the new tween audience. The implications of these developments are critical to understanding today's kids and in marketing to them. Successful marketing to kids is about establishing brand relationships, not about one shot purchase occasions. We build products and messages that are intended to connect with kid lifestyle. In turn, we believe they'll connect with our brands. Or will they?
Presented by SportsTravel magazine
10:00am "Including Youth With Disabilities Into Your Programs”
Pam Carey, Wheelchair Sports USA
Overview: Through their participation in organized sports programs, young children learn how to play the game, how to be a team player, how to perform the skills correctly, how to use the equipment, and how to condition the body. They also learn about sportsmanship, honesty, discipline, and dignity. Organized sports programs build strong characters as well as strong, healthy bodies. Children with disabilities are more like these children than unlike them. They, too, can greatly benefit from participation in organized sports programs. Imagine having a son, daughter, niece, nephew, grandson, or granddaughter who has a disability. What are you willing to do to make sure that they receive these life experiences?
10:30am "Youth Sports - Positively Complex!"

You'll leave with know-how to create the contagious spirit of good sportsmanship, and how to implement character training during your practice even when you only have kids for one-two hours a week!
